2023-2024 Safety Update
Winfree Academy Charter Schools is committed to school safety as a priority on all campuses. During the 2022-2023 school year, our school community responded 85% in support of the establishment of a Guardian Program as a response to an active shooter.
On May 23, 2023 the Winfree Academy Board of Directors authorized the Superintendent to implement a Guardian Program allowing selected employees to carry a concealed weapon on campus. The identity of the guardian(s) is confidential and they will not be identified by the public on any campus but are registered as School Safety Officers through the Texas Department of Public Safety.
To meet the requirements of HB 3, enacted June 13, 2023 of the 88th Texas legislative session, Winfree Academy Charter Schools will implement on all campuses a combination of armed security officers which may include school resource officers, commissioned peace officers, and school guardians.
Winfree Academy Charter Schools extensive safety plan implemented on all campuses include the following safety measures:
- Armed Security Officer
- Front Door Access Control
- Mental Health Counseling and Support Services
- Multi-hazard Emergency Operations Plan (MEOP)
- *Resistant Film on Windows and Doors
- School Safety and Security Committee (SSSC)
- *Silent Panic Alarm
- Standard Response Protocol
- Threat Assessment Committee

We will continue to update our school community on additions to our MEOP, SSSC Public Meetings, safety projects, and any other safety-related communications on our website and in our weekly newsletter.
Threat Reporting
Winfree Academy Charter Schools students and staff may report campus threats to the Threat Assessment Committee in the following ways:
